Capcom has announced at EVO 2022 the addition of two new fighters to the Street Fighter 6 roster. They are Kimberly, a new character, and Juri, a contestant who first appeared in Super Street Fighter IV. Meanwhile, fighting game commentators Tasty Steve and James Chen join the cast of real-time announcers.
“Kimberly is a disciple of Guy, and the 39th successor to the Bushinryu. She has an extraordinary education, but she is a true prodigy who graduated early and now wants to be a ninja. She loves the 80s, ”explains Capcom about the new fighter joining the Street Fighter franchise. “Kimberly blends her skills as a ninja with her love of ’80s pop culture to create a fascinating and dangerous fighting style.” He further adds that Kimberly has great physical strength and can tackle opponents in many ways.
As for the character’s design, Takayuki Nakayama, director of Street Fighter 6, explains that the goal was “to create a suitable suit for his fast and acrobatic movements.” The developer maintains that if you combine his colorful gi with the right shoes to move fast, you get a Bushinryu-style ninja outfit. His hairstyle and outfit are meant to highlight his silhouette, while the spray can and portable cassette player he carries on top of him is used during special moves.
About Juri, Capcom anticipates that “she is still a sadist” who “enjoys the suffering of others” and “her greatest joy is to annihilate her rivals.” As for her costume, Takayuki Nakayama explains that Juri retains the outfit from Super Street Fighter IV, but modified to fit the aesthetic of Street Fighter 6. There is also a change in hairstyle “that gives her more personality.” Regarding the fighting style, Juri maintains several of her already known movements, but with new properties and “some new tricks”.
Kimberly and Juri join Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke, Jamie, and Guile on the list of characters announced for Street Fighter 6. Finally, Capcom teases that for more details on the Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle game modes. Hub, we’ll have to wait until the end of this year. Street Fighter 6 will be available in 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
